Seriously, they've never done this in my lifetime. I'm young still, but it is still HUUUUGE. Okay, people will say they'll lose or they still suck, but I don't care cause this is really like the happiest day for Tigers fans in 19 years.

Anyway, thread is for MLB Playoffs. What other teams will be in besides those that have already clinched?

Still have hope for my Cardinals, but with their pitching and hot-or-cold offense, they will likely get clobbered by any AL team.

It's obvious that the Mets will win the World Series.

as a red sox fan i am depressed. but i hope the twins or tigers pull it out. as for the NL i hope that a NL west team can win it, since that has been the funest division to watch all season.

I'd like to think the Mets are going all the way, but the fact a few of their biggest stars are so young and inexperienced doesn't sit well with me.

mets pitching is super thin.

I think the astros could beat them in a 7 game series if we actually made it to the playoffs.

If you honestly think the Mets could win a world series with that pitching staff, I've got a condo for you in the Bahamas.

I'm hesitant to talk about it (like it's a no-hitter or something), but the astros have won 7 straight, and the red birds have lost 7 straight.

No matter how it ends, it's making for some great september baseball.

The fact that the Mets rotation is a bit questionable heading into the playoffs is keeping me grounded about expectations. Every team in the playoffs has a worthy offense, but we all know that pitching (and OK, super clutch hitting) wins playoff games. I think Pedro's track record for winning big when it truly counts will come out again, and El Duque is just a whole 'nother beast this time of year. The Mets offense has looked weary in the past 2-3 weeks, but I think the talent is there for them to turn it on at full blast once the playoff atmosphere kicks in... and the Mets bench is way deep. The only team I'm worried about at all in the NL is the Dodgers b/c they have momentum going for them and players who are performing above and beyond the norm.

Anyone can win the NL this year, its that piss poor.

But with Pedro being out for the entire playoffs, they wont win the world series.

And thats if they play the Tigers or not.

jordan pastepunk
09-29-2006, 08:36 AM
I'm sorta glad the Pedro thing has been decided. Otherwise it would have been a huge distraction -- sure it's a tough loss, one in which definitely puts them in a vulnerable position, but now it's time for El Duque, Glavine, Traschel and Maine to at least give them a few quality innings so the big bats take charge. I'm going to see the Mets tonight @ RFK -- I'm sure Mets fans will outnumber Nats fans 2-1.

The Cardinals are my team though. Going to the game in St. Louis on Saturday--pretty stoked.

If the Mets sweep their series tonight, that will make the final seven hours of today some of my favorite of all time in baseball watching. The sad-sack face on A-Rod after the final out was priceless. He was probably practicing his emotional expressions while in the dugout earlier in the inning.

lets just say that I assumed that the Yankees were a shoe in since Detroit's pitching was horrible in September. Apparantly the Detroit rookies have gotten back on track and watching Zumaya is just jaw dropping. The Yankees offense sleeps every October.

I was rooting for the Twins to take the A's since I assumed the Twins pitching staff was clearly better. Though Zito pitched awesome Game 1 and Thomas is unbelievable so I was wrong again.

I hope the Padres would take out the Cardinals since they have been awful this past month. Looks like I am wrong there too.

However, the Mets can clearly pull this one out. While their rotation is god awful, all they need is 5 innings from their starters just to keep them in the game. Their bats and bullpen can do the rest.

My prediction for the world series:
Mets vs Tigers
but based on my previous guesses, it will be completely wrong

you're just lucky the stros didn't make the post-season.

I'm impressed with your team, honestly. Props to them. I really thought that the first rough patch they hit would fuck up what they had going.

No offense but their hitting was weak and their pitching suspect.

the highlights were exciting. I'm a big fan of mags's hair.

I'm a much larger fan of the national league, but my hatred for those two new york baseball teams transcends league. So if it's the Mets, I'm rooting D, if it's the Cards, then I'm not.

As Rolen came up to bat I told my roomate, "This guy's a dick," and sure enough, just now, he ran at least 6 feet away from Third Base to PUSH AND RUN OVER Brandon Inge and you know, Joe Buck being the play-by-play guy for the Cards, didn't even acknowledge it, instead saying that Inge was in his way. WATCH the play and tell me that Rolen didn't intentionally run into him to get the easy given run.

WHAT A DICK!

HaveFunDying

Tigers look horrible. I was thinking the exact same thing about Inge and Rolen, though. Rolen was like 3 feet off the base path.

Doubt it will matter.

10-22-2006, 08:16 AM
Man yeah talk about let down city. Jesus Christ we looked bad last night but my roomate and I didn't get to smoke through out the game(we were at the bar).

Every playoff game where we can get super blown the whole time they win, and we will win game 2. GUARANSHEED.

CoreyPastepunk
10-22-2006, 12:07 PM
I don't know man, I don't think they looked all that bad. Verlander was pitching an amazing game and was on track for at least 12-13 K's if he had gone 7 or 8 innings, but he had two major mistakes (throwing to Pujols and then trying to pick him off at 1st) that really skewed the score. Other than that, the offense just wasn't getting it done, but I don't think they looked that bad.

So let's hope that Jeff Weaver doesn't come back to haunt us tonight....

I don't believe it at all. It's just dirt. Just because he pitched a good game, as he has done the entire playoffs, they accuse him of cheating.

Tigers in 6.

BNO
10-23-2006, 01:39 PM
I mean it certainly looks like pine tar but I just don't get what the big deal is? It was gone after the first inning, actually one of Roger's more shaky innings(there weren't many).

People love a controversy though, its just gonna fuel the flames because when Kenny comes back to Detroit for game 6, its over.

Oh and I've heard people say on tv that he had a similar substance on his hand the other two games, and they must be crazy because a huge stink would have already been made about it, especially in New York where the media loves to see a NY team win.

Christopher
10-23-2006, 01:48 PM
they showed close-ups of it on ESPN from the past few games he's pitched. I don't really care about it, but it is sorta weird that it was there, in the same spot, on different occasions. It's also sorta weird how he explained it differently than the umpire manager.
