so, we're coming into the home stretch for 2006. some good releases have come out, some great releases are coming out.

some of the cooler records i've heard/enjoyed this year include:

THE SWORD - Age Of Winters
DRAGONFORCE - Inhuman Rampage
CELTIC FROST - Monotheist
UNEARTH - III: In The Eyes of Fire
IGNITE - Our Darkest Days
THE LOVED ONES - Keep Your Heart

I'm still on the fence about BURST, HARLOTS and THURSDAY's new ones and I need to take a few good listens to ANOTHER BREATH. I haven't peeped STRIKE ANYWHERE or ONE DEAD THREE WOUNDED yet.

Still waiting to hear: ARSIS, ISIS, RED SPAROWES, and MASTODON

Red Medicine

The Marked Men - Fix My Brain (top 10 for sure)
The Modern Machines - Take It, Somebody!
Boysetsfire - The Misery Index (top 10)
Mission of Burma - The Illuminati (top 10)
Danielson - Ships
The Sw!ms - Ride of the Blueberry Winter
Akimbo - Forging Steel and Laying Stone (top 10)
World/Inferno Friendship Society - Red-Eyed Soul
The Larry Arms - Oh, Calcutta!
Dead to Me - Cuban Ballerina
None More Black - This is Satire
Buzzcocks - Flat-Pack Philosophy

These last two might slide in my top 25. They probably will, as I really haven't purchased that many albums this year:

Pink Razors - Waiting to Wash Up
Ryan's Hope - Apocalypse in Increments

I thought this would be an awesome year for punk rock, but thus far it's really not much better than in '05. Alas, D4 once again fail to deliever the goods. The Avail album delay is a major bummer too.

Ted Leo's new album better be in stores before 2007...

I second The Thermals for the Best of 06. Partly because it's a great record, and partly because 2006 has been a pretty pitiful year for music.

The problem with Wolve's in Wolve's Clothing is that it's not really linear and when listened to as a whole the experience isn't that rewarding, when you listen to each song individually inbetween other music, you truly appreciate it. That being said, my list so far is.

I'm pretty impressed that the new Scarlet made such an impression on you. I thought it was a pretty good record, but it didn't blow up my spot like Cult Classic did. Either way, I think it's great that they'll be getting more attention lest they go on an extended hiatus again.

oh i know SYG isn't intended to be a pop punk or hardcore masterpiece. crossover things like that just seem so inbred and downright corny to me. its got catchy parts to it, i can admit that. i just refuse to buy into the novelty of it all.

Shook Ones - Slaughter of the Insole
Down To Nothing - Higher Learning
The Ergs - Jazz is the new Coke
Expired Youth - Where We Stand
Tin Armour - Demo

Kind of Like Spitting/Lemuria - Split

What I'm waiting for/most stoked for:

Cold World/War Hungry - Split
Let Down 7"
Lifetime single
new Hope Con
new Shipwreck 7"
LLT/Final Fight split
Shook Ones full-length
108's thing they're doing for their Euro tour
new Lion of Judah record
new Helm full-length
new Bad Astronaut
Tim Barry full-length
Chris of Larry Arms solo full-length
Ambitions - Question EP
Decemberists
Dillinger Four

also still haven't heard the new Latterman yet, can't find it at any record stores.

Biggest bummers:

The Lawrence Arms - Oh Calcutta: Should be The Falcon - Oh Calcutta. Chris's vocals are way too low in the mix and the agression comes off as insincere and forced.

When Tigers Fight - Ghost Stories: Stupid lyrics on all the songs that are credited to Ken Olden, hopefully Damnation A.D.'s new full-length doesn't turn out like this.

Betrayed - Substance: After those awesome songs on the split they totally dropped the ball and went totally generic youth crew and virtually dropped the melodic DC vibe they had going on.

Good Riddance - My Republic: I've given up faith on this band, hopefully the new Only Crime will be good.

The Falcon - Unicornography - It's not that it's bad, it was just hyped up to the point of it being the best thing since sliced bread. Oh Calcutta easily beats it and Oh Calcutta is my least favorite Lawrence Arms album.

holy shit! i think you just went through every single release since january!

here's mine:

-loved ones
-sainte catherines
-nofx
-the holy mountain
-drag the river
-whiskey and co.
-w/i friendship society
-neko case
-aggrolites
-lady sovereign ep

It was on punknews.org earlier in the year.

They definitely aren't ever going to tour or play shows at all though.

Ben, he doesn't care about your opinion. He wants to know if it's out!

According to interpunk, it came out on May 23rd.

I really haven't bought enough new music this year, and by new, i mean released this year, cos i've bought plenty of new cds...that are actually older cds...yeah, I'm gonna stop there.

My point is, this is all i can think of off the top of my head:

Bigiwg
Rise Against
NOFX

Probably in that order. Really need to buy some more recent stuff, but to be honest i haven't heard of half the bands you guys listed, and the ones i have heard of i already own or am just not interested.
I need to go through your lists and pick out bands and listen to a few of them to educate myself, but i'm just too fucking lazy.

I finally got into Moneen's Red Tree so it'll prob be added to that list. Who else would love to see these songs performed in a massive theater with full light show?

Is the blonde one a girl or boy? I seriously can't tell. Also, is the second from the right Stephen Baldwin's evil twin. And what is with Slash junior on the left? Who the hell is this?

I have to stop myself from listening to the new TV on the Radio, so I don't burn it out.

I'm seeing them on Tues. instead of Mastodon/Converge/Bronx. How many scene points do I lose?

that album rules so much. and not that many. converge in a big venue is weird, the bronx are m'eh live and i didnt stick around for mastodon for a number of reasons but wish i had.

haha, depends which scene. if this was a pitchfork oriented forum, you'd be breezin. if this was a blabbermouth forum, you'd be hanging upside by your balls.

seeing as we're in the middle, just tell us how the show is.

1. TLA "Oh! Calcutta!"
2. Copyrights "Mutiny Pop"
3. Strike Anywhere "Dead FM"
4. Off With Their Heads "Hospitals"
5. Lillingtons "The Too Late Show"
6. Dead To Me "Cuban ballerina"

Shit...these are all my friends' bands...

Saying the new Thermals record is the best of the year basically makes "Fuckin' A" the best record of all-time. I like the new one, but it's prolly about 10th overall. Plus, they're not my friends.

i liked the new Sugarcult album a lot and even tough I think Saosin is over hyped, their self titled disc is good . but the best has yet to come : brand new, dead poetic, bad astronaut and some other bands i can't remember ...

oh i forgot Men Women and Children . and Head Automatica, but less good :)

New Dead Hearts album is so fucking good.

The MLIW influence really gave this band a new direction and some new life (though they ruled already.)

I like the album but all I do when I listen is sit there and think how much they sound like MLIW now. It's cool and all, but the lyrics could be stronger/more varied, and it feels like they keep repeating the same "build"-style song structure.

to switch pace a bit...

'Gulag Orkestar' by Beirut has remained on heaviest rotation on my itunes along with the Falcon, Not Water Music, and some old Love Me Destroyer.
