Dude, this is some rad stuff. Album in the works?

Big_Guy
06-17-2009, 05:54 PM
wow, did not expect everyone to like this or to not hate it.

we got about 7 songs done, so we'll probably do an ep or something. this song was a freebie at this particular studio, so we'll have to pay for the rest, that's why it's only one song

probably worth investing in a better studio dude. songs not bad, but the recording isn't very good, especially the drums.

Big_Guy

yeah, the drums are all sampled, but I don't think we're a good enough band to need a better studio at this point.

my one criticism would be to pull back on the drum pace at times to make the songs more dynamic. i think i mentioned this before, and this song is a step in the right direction.

Big_Guy

do you mean slow down this song or don't use as much fast beat in the rest of the songs? we kind of wanted to have a speedy song as our first song out of the gate

this is honestly one of two songs that is this fast as of now though

keep the creative criticisms coming....

I dunno, I'm all about forbidden beat speed, all day every day.

slow down more parts of this song, not the whole thing though. i feel like forbidden beat is best used in crescendo rather than the overall pace of the better part of the song.

Kinda random, but this made me think of the last parts of the Decline by NOFX - where it goes from that weird free time part to eventually speeding up and building and building and then kicking in with raging forbidden beat. Every time it gets to the "and so we go...on with our lives...we know the truth...but prefer lies" part, I want to mosh through a wall.

Amen to that. I'm digging the song. It's like a Drive-Thru Records flashback to 1999.

cool stuff. my one suggestion would be about the build up in the bridge, it feels like its building to a super epic breakdown that never happens. i wanted a serious mosh fest breakdown right there and didnt get it. i gotta respectfully disagree with jon about the amount of forbidden beat, i think it works great. more bands need to play fast.

i'm all for a fast song but i'm way more into dynamics.

The new song sounds like Lawrence Arms in the verses.

Big_Guy

agreed. when my one guitarist was recording his vocals me and the other guitarist just looked at each other and said that he sounded like Chris. and the music resembles TLA

Cool stuff, man, keep them coming. Some very specific comments:

REVOLUTION

Great guitar work all around. I really like the opening riff. It reminds me of my favorite Strung Out songs, "Twisted By Design" era.

I think the whoas at the end are way too loud. I feel this would be much more interesting if they sounded more like a pattern than an actual voice. Maybe turning it down and adding something to it - a delay, or a very shallow flanger - would make it gel better with the basic tracks, and not stand out so much.

Just before the song hits 1 minute, there's a verse (it says something about the back of t-shirt) that I think you should work on. It seems a bit too long, so its metric felt a little forced when I first heard it.

Just for experience's sake, I'd try double tracking the vocals of the guy who sounds like TLA. It might not work, but I'd give it a shot, 'cause I feel that could make his voice sound smoother. Since he's screaming at a pretty high pitch, it's also one way to dilute the effort he has to make to reach those notes. It might not work at all, but I'd give it a try.

TRIPWIRES

Great whoas. Digging that, for sure.

I also feel a metric problem around 30 seconds into the song.

I do agree with Ryan that there should be a breakdown somewhere towards the end. I'd say the last "whoas" could be a good place to try it.

we finished 2 songs recently. I uploaded them to purevolume.

they aren't the final mixes or mastered so they probably sound like shit, but I'm looking for some outside opinions.

have at em
